For export manufacturers, the wooden crate is familiar: build a one-way box, fumigate it when required, load the goods, and accept that the packaging usually leaves with the shipment. The cost is not only the timber. It also includes treatment, handling time, damage risk, disposal, and the empty packaging that cannot make an efficient return trip.

Where does a foldable stillage save against a wooden crate?

How should you calculate the return trip?
Do not compare only the purchase price of one wooden crate with the purchase price of one stillage. Calculate the packaging loop:
- Wooden-crate route: outbound crate cost + treatment and documentation + loading labour + damage or disposal cost + replacement crate for the next order.
- Foldable-stillage route: stillage purchase or rental allocation + internal protection + outbound freight space + return freight or repositioning cost + inspection and repair allowance.
- Break-even view: divide the landed cost of one stillage by the number of completed export cycles, then add the cost of returning an empty folded unit on each cycle.
- Capacity view: count how many folded stillages can share the return vehicle or container footprint, rather than pricing one empty frame in isolation.
For example, if 20 stillages return folded in the space previously used by far fewer rigid crates, the return freight allocation per unit may fall materially. The actual result depends on dimensions, carrier rates, route balance, payload limits, and whether the receiver returns the frames on time. Request a shipment-frequency model rather than assuming a universal percentage saving.

When is the reusable loop a good fit?
- Repeated export lanes where the receiver can store and return the empty stillages.
- Manufactured goods that need forklift handling, repeatable positioning, and vertical stacking during production or dispatch.
- Long or irregular loads that are awkward to secure in standard flat steel pallets, provided the load-support and restraint design is confirmed.
- Operations trying to reduce one-way packaging waste, treatment coordination, and empty-return volume.

Will Mytrack always be cheaper than a wooden crate?
No. For a single shipment with no return path, a crate may have the lower initial outlay. The stillage case becomes stronger when the same unit completes multiple export cycles and the folded return density is usable.
What information is needed for a return-trip calculation?
Provide annual shipment frequency, destination and Incoterm, product dimensions and weight, protection requirements, container or truck loading pattern, receiver return timing, and current crate treatment and disposal costs.
