For a purchasing team considering a galvanized wire mesh container for an export yard, covered loading area, or outdoor preparation zone, the important question is not simply "Is it galvanized?" The useful question is: what finish is specified for this project and how will it be accepted?
Stbox can be supplied as a collapsible and stackable industrial storage cage for parts storage, WIP buffering, and plant logistics. Its coating has a defined application limit. The galvanized coating has limits; acceptance must follow the project.
A documented electro-galvanized variant can withstand rain exposure, but that is a delimited claim.
Project record 13967 identifies an electro-galvanized variant of Stbox with a coating of ≥8 μmThe same record supports outdoor rainwater exposure for that specified variant. This is useful for general circulation in warehouses, covered yards, and ordinary outdoor preparation where agreed design and maintenance conditions are followed.
It does not mean that every Stbox, every zinc finish, or every outdoor location has the same corrosion performance. Value 13967 belongs to a defined project configuration. It must be cited with the approved drawing, finish description, and inspection method, not copied into a universal product promise.
Why "galvanized" is not a single specification for long-term outdoor use
The corrosion exposure of a wire mesh container depends on more than the word galvanized. The coating process, thickness, surface preparation, welds, cut edges, drainage, cleaning, storage position, and surrounding atmosphere affect the outcome. Regular warehouse use and occasional rain differ from continuous wetting, condensation, coastal salt mist, or contact with chemical vapors.
That is why the Stbox product master detail table, including its surface treatment guide in §5 and the limit in §13, does not authorize a general claim that all coatings provide long-term outdoor rust protection. A buyer needing that level of protection must first define the environment. A supplier must then confirm whether the selected finish and construction are suitable, rather than upgrading a general galvanized description into a lifetime warranty.
For salt mist, humidity, or chemicals, specify the finish and acceptance test
Project record 15059 lists cold-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized options with approximate values of 10 μm and 40 μm respectively. These figures show why finish selection must be project-specific; they are documented options for a particular configuration, not a universal performance rating or promised service life.
For a coastal, high-humidity, or chemical-handling application, the purchase specification must identify the exposure, selected coating route, target coating thickness, and corrosion or salt mist acceptance standard. Confirm the test method, exposure duration, sampling points, and pass/fail criteria before production. If the requirement includes weld zones, corners, or cut edges, state how those areas will be inspected. Without those details, "rust-proof" is too vague to protect both buyer and manufacturer.
What a practical Stbox coating confirmation should contain
- Environment: State indoor, covered outdoor, outdoor rain, coastal salt mist, condensation, or chemical exposure. The finish is selected against this description, not against a generic "outdoor" label.
- Project variant: Keep dimensions, wire, Q235 structure, collapsible arrangement, and finish linked to the approved drawing. Records 13967 and 15059 must not be merged into an assumed standard.
- Measured acceptance: Record the target coating thickness, such as the documented ≥8 μm electro-galvanized value or the project 15059 values around 10 μm/40 μm, and define where and how it is verified.
- Corrosion requirement: If salt mist or chemical resistance matters, confirm the applicable test and acceptance criteria in writing. A wire diameter inspection, such as the one shown here, is a quality check; it is not a salt mist result.
The risk of treating a galvanized cage as "permanently rust-proof"
Exceeding the warranty can create a mismatch before the first shipment arrives. Purchasing may expect a finish suitable for sea air, quality control may inspect against an undeclared salt mist requirement, and operations may place the cage where water or chemicals become trapped. The resulting dispute is not resolved by repeating the word galvanized.
A better purchasing decision is to separate what is documented from what must be confirmed. Stbox offers a practical wire mesh container platform with project-selectable finishes and configurations, but the corrosion limit remains visible: choose the coating for the environment, approve the acceptance standard, and maintain the cage as specified.
Frequently asked questions
Can the electro-galvanized version of Stbox be used outdoors?
