Sebox Insert Selection Guide: Mesh or Steel Plate?
When the outer frame stays the same, the insert decides whether the load stays visible or stays fully contained. For Sebox users, that choice is not cosmetic. It changes how quickly operators can identify parts, how well loose items are held, and how much support the load gets during handling and stacking.

If your team needs to confirm the right SKU at a glance, the mesh insert is usually the first place to start. It keeps the load visible, so counting, scanning, and visual checks are faster. That matters when the batch is mixed, the order changes often, or the warehouse wants fewer unpacking steps.
Mesh also fits the engineering logic of parts that are heavy enough to stay inside the cage, but still need air, visibility, and quick inspection. In practice, this is the better choice when you want the operator to see what is inside without opening the unit. If your parts are very small, though, mesh should be treated with discipline: confirm the opening size against the part size, and add an inner liner or tray if the SKU can slip through the gaps. Mesh is a visibility-first choice, not a universal anti-loss solution.

When steel plate is the better call
Steel plate inserts solve the opposite problem. They reduce side exposure, improve containment, and give the load a firmer boundary when the parts are dense, irregular, or likely to shift. If your concern is not visibility but control, a steel plate insert is the safer direction. It is especially useful when parts have sharp edges, when the batch is stacked unevenly, or when the side wall should act like a rigid barrier instead of a see-through fence.
The tradeoff is simple: steel plate blocks more of the view. Operators lose the quick visual read that mesh gives them, so the insert should be chosen only when containment is more important than instant inspection. That is why the decision should be made at the engineering stage, not after the first shipment is already on the floor.

The fastest way to decide
- If the operator must see the load quickly, choose mesh.
- If the parts are small enough to risk escaping, do not assume mesh alone is enough.
- If the batch is heavy, irregular, or likely to press against the sides, choose steel plate.
- If one frame needs to serve different SKUs, keep the outer Sebox frame and swap the insert by configuration.
That last point is the real cost saver. You do not need two different handling systems just because the part mix changes. In a configurable Sebox setup, the frame, forklift path, and storage footprint stay stable. What changes is the insert that matches the part family. For a warehouse team, that means fewer process changes. For a procurement team, that means one platform can cover more use cases.

Can the same frame switch inserts on site?
Yes, if the Sebox build is specified as an interchangeable-insert system. In that case, the outer steel frame is the fixed handling platform, and the insert becomes the variable. That is the cleanest way to handle a mixed plant: use the same footprint, the same stacking logic, and the same forklift approach, while matching the insert to the load.
If the frame was ordered as a fixed build, make the decision before production starts. Retrofitting after the goods arrive usually costs more time than choosing the right insert from the start.
