Empty wire mesh containers are easy to price and easy to underestimate. The purchase price is visible; the return trip, temporary factory storage and packaging space are not. For Stbox project 13967, the useful operating question is simple: what happens after the cage is emptied?
The recorded result is specific: one folded cage measured 190 mm high, and 10 empty cages were listed as one stack of approximately 1240 × 1240 × 1600 mm. That is the number a plant logistics manager can put into a return-loading or inventory-space calculation—not a generic promise for every Stbox size.
What the 13967 empty-stack measurement means
Using the recorded outer envelope, the 10-cage stack occupies about 2.46 m³ (1.24 × 1.24 × 1.60 m). Its floor footprint is about 1.54 m². The single-cage folded height of 190 mm is the measured reference for this 13967 configuration; it should not be multiplied blindly into a universal stacking rule. Ten times 190 mm would be 1,900 mm before accounting for nesting, overlap or the way the stack was measured, while the listed stack envelope is approximately 1,600 mm high. Engineering should confirm the drawing, orientation and measurement basis before a truck or container plan is released.
For a rough internal comparison, the same project table lists an assembled envelope of 800 × 1200 × 890 mm. Ten separate assembled envelopes would total about 8.54 m³ before aisle, clearance and handling allowances. Compared with the listed folded-stack envelope, the indicative envelope reduction is about 71%. Treat this as a planning comparison only: the assembled and folded figures use different packing geometries, so the final logistics drawing remains the controlling document.
Why folding changes the return-cost calculation
When full cages return empty, the vehicle is carrying air inside a rigid volume. Folding changes the question from “How many empty cages fit?” to “How many folded units can be secured in one loading footprint?” The benefit appears in three places: fewer occupied floor positions at the factory, more manageable temporary staging after unloading, and a better chance of filling the return vehicle with folded units rather than dispatching partially empty loads.
The saving is not only cubic metres. Operators still need safe access, stable stacks, fork clearance and inspection space. Folded units should be bundled and restrained for transport; stacking feet must be correctly seated, and the selected design must be checked against its approved handling and stacking plan. The indexed image of folded units secured with straps reflects a packing method, not a blanket certification of every bundle or route.
Stretch film and straps versus a wooden crate
Stretch film plus strapping: the usual attraction is no additional packaging charge in the quoted arrangement, lower material complexity and direct access to the folded bundle. The trade-off is that movement, rubbing or tension points may cause minor coating or paint scuffing. Use edge protection, a controlled strap position and a loading method that prevents sliding; decide whether cosmetic marks are acceptable for the return route.
Wooden crate packaging: the stated reference is 90 yuan/m², with the total depending on the actual crate surface area and packing design. A crate can add separation and protection, but it also consumes volume, adds weight and may reduce the number of folded cages loaded per vehicle or container. It can make sense when the shipment is export-sensitive, mixed with vulnerable components, or exposed to repeated transshipment. It is less attractive when the crate volume causes an extra freight unit or leaves a costly amount of unused capacity.
To compare fairly, calculate: packaging charge + added handling + occupied loading volume + expected touch-up or damage risk. Then compare that total with the value of one additional return load or one month of factory floor space. The lower unit packaging price is not automatically the lower landed cost.

Include the empty-cage quantity, folded-stack envelope, usable floor area, restraint method, forklift or pallet-jack route, packaging charge and any acceptable surface-marking tolerance.
